wake me when spring gets here

The older girls have been hanging out in the coop all day. No eggs this week. No eggs last week. The weather is nasty, to say the least. Rain. Hail. Wind. Cold.

Wanna come out today Wynonna?

Maybe... if you give me some cracked corn.

52210CK-20-Edit

Sweet Nelly hasn’t left this spot for a week.

Feeling a little broody Nelly?

A little cracked corn might cheer me up.

And maybe a bowl of yogurt?

Could you put some currants on that too?

And some lettuce?

Thank you.

Did someone say corn?

You’re too little to know what that is.

These rhodies bloomed before the weather turned crappy. They’re providing a bright spot today.

Geesh, what is it about our weather here this week. Feels like late Feb or early march. I wonder if my garden is floating away. On the bright side, I love the pictures of your girls. They are beautiful.

Hi Cindy

what lovely clucky friends you have. Wynonna is such a beauty. Your pics are delightful and the rhododendron take me home to Dad's garden in the cool climate of NZ.

Happy days

The girls look so depressed! C'mon sunshine, you gotta cheer up these lovely ladies! Wow, I don't know what to make of this crazy weather. I have to say that even with all the rain we've been having, our weather is still better than yours. But we're going straight into summer this coming week with highs in the mid-80's. Not sure I'm ready for that...we had the furnace on just 3 days ago!

Beautiful rhody blossoms and pretty chickies!

Wow, what great photos of your girls. I want to know more about raising chickens in the city. I'm so sick of this rain. Will the sun ever come back?

Hi Konnie, The weather is really cramping my style this spring. Next year I'll remember not to plant until June 1. Thanks for your compliments... I'll pass them on to the girls.

Hi Delwyn, So that's what makes our rhodies so beautiful this year... a cool climate? Such wonderful memories of your father on your blog.

Thanks Susan, The girls do seem a bit depressed. Maybe it's time to bring them into the warm house for a photo shoot. That might brighten their day. Mid 80's? Yikes, I'm not ready for that!

Hi Cathy, So you want to raise chickens you say? Check out The Backyard Chicken Forum http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/index.php for info. It's really easy and fun too!

Your chicken photos are seriously good! Each chicken seems to have its own little personality.

(Maybe they are depressed because of all that wire you constructed to go over the raised beds.)

Thanks Sharon! You are so right, they have very distinct personalities. If there were such a thing as antidepressants for chickens, I'd be doling them out about now! All they want to do is hang out in the coop all day... but can you blame them?

Great photos! I feel just like those awesome chickens. Weeks later and the weather is still the same. It is breaking my heart.

Lisa,
as a native Oregonian, I can honestly say I don't remember a wetter spring.
