have studio, will travel

It's been over a month now since I shot photos for Yellow Rose Dance Studio's spring dance. On the day of the performance, I set up a mini studio where the dancers could come before or after their time on stage. It was so much fun! and I'm excited to share some of the resulting images with you.

I learned later that these two girls are cousins. Too cute! I liked this same image as a black and white too...

Many dancers had a lot of fun with this jumping pose...

But this girl was exceptionally springy...

I loved the interaction between these two when I had them strike a spinning pose...

I'm working on creating a totally new lighting style and look for their winter performance. Possibly similar to the style I used with Iz, Nelly and Bailey back in February?

Hey Cindy, great photos!

I just saw a job listing on Craigslist in Portland today for a photographer to go around to take school photos. It sounded somewhat interesting but the territory was 12 states and I bet they work on a sales commission.

I only mention it because here coincidently you have great photos of kids. Good stop-action shots, by the way!

Gotta run and comment on your last post because there are cute cowboys there!

Hi Sharon, Thanks for visiting and for your comments. Not sure I'd be cut out for the repetition of school portraits. I'm actually a graphic designer in my day job, but I have always enjoyed the creative side of photography. I'm glad I get to keep it fun by choosing the subjects I want to photograph.

Uh, Cindy, why aren't you opening your own studio? OMG, these portraits are some of the best I've ever seen! You have it goin' on, girlfriend. I can just imagine a portfolio of wedding pictures from you. The brides would be flocking to your door!

Susan, Thank you for your sweet comments! Brides flocking to my door? now that's a sight! These kids were great fun though. I'll be doing more of these as well as some family portraits in the near future.

You do have a knack with these portraits, for sure - those two cousins are SUCH cuties! Although I know that doing it as a day job would get old fast - this occasional flirt keeps it fresh. (love that tuckered out cowboy too - aww!) I like this lighting - I'll have to go back to check out the variation you mentioned to weigh in on that.

Thank you Kendra! I did have some great subjects to work with. When I first showed their dance instructor the images, she cried. I think she liked them.

Hope you've had a good week! Enjoy the weekend and try to stay cool.

I'll bet she cried - they really are a wonderful series - you really capture their personalities rather than just the mug shot that most other portrait photographers go for.

Good job!
