where's my daughter?

where's my daughter?

For two days our house was very quiet! I barely knew my highly energetic tween was in the house. She only put the book down to attend a few dance classes, and even then the book came along and she read on the drive to and from. I took her out to lunch... well sort of ... she was quite adamant about take out, and Burgerville is the only fast food I'll allow. Even the sweet potato fries were left to get cold and the milkshake forgotten...

...of course I quickly went on to Amazon and ordered the other three books in the series.

You are a smart mom! You know when to take the ball and run. I think I'm the only female on the planet who hasn't read the Twilight series. I'm sure it's the very thing I would have been reading when I was a teenager.....many decades ago. I think at Isabel's age I was reading Valley of the Dolls or something by Phyllis A Whitney. She specialized in governess mysteries.

I'm reading The Chronicles of Narnia to my grandsons right now...ages 7 and 5 (almost 6). They love it and sit in rapt attention unless they stop me to ask the meaning of a word.

Cindy, I love how you are now posting more often than I am! It's great!

Susan, well that makes two females I'm aware of who haven't read the Twilight series. Not sure it's one I'll be getting into... I get the gist of it and it's not my cup o tea. I remember the first romantic book I read very clearly. It was Love Story by Erich Segal. My Dad confiscated it because he read a paragraph in it that criticized catholicism, which of course made me want to read it even more.

I loved The Chronicles of Narnia. I read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe alongside Isabel when she was in 3rd grade. That was back when she still enjoyed being read to more than reading on her own. The movie is good too.

My blogging will have to slow down next week when winter break is over and we're back to the school and work routine.

I thought I would pop back in because I wanted to recommend a book, if you have time to read, that is. I know how hard it is when you're busy with family and work. Anyway, if you are interested in the Dracula subject, you should try The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It's Dracula for intellectuals. It made me want to travel in Eastern Europe so I could see all the places that she described.

Yeah well I'm 46 and I read all four books in less than two weeks - never to old to get hooked!

Gah, just read Susan's comment - The Historian is AWESOME!

Susan, thanks for the book recommendation. I am in a book club, sounds like we need to read it.

Fannie, I took my daughter to see the Twilight movie last night... in a word... interesting. The sexual tension was a bit much! I don't know if my 11 year old noticed.
