Now don't she look purty in her new down coat? They sure look awful when they're in full molt, don't they? They always seem so vulnerable and almost look like they're embarassed. LOL

I am so relieved to see this chicken. My beloved Penelope (an Arauacana) is molting, I think. She's not looking too whoopy.
This is my first time stopping by and your photos are just beautiful! I bet you have a Nikon, don't you? I'm kicking myself for getting the Canon. Just not the clarity I want.
Susan, Lucy and Ethel are the only ones laying now. I need some winter layers, since that seems to be the time we need more eggs. Pretty sure the others (now 3 years old) are done. How do you eliminate old hens from your flock?
Cindy, I haven't quite figured out how to do that. I haven't had an egg in 3 days, out of 14 hens!! They are not earning their keep. I'm dreading this winter, and trudging all that way out to the barn to feed and water and keep them "amused" when they can't go out. I love them, but I'm wondering if it's worth all that effort if I'm not even getting the eggs.
I'm thinking of putting an ad on craigslist. I don't know if it would get any response though. Who wants tough-as-hide 2 1/2-year-old hens who aren't laying? :(
Nice photos, Cindy. I have Canon as well and am thinking about getting a new lens. What do you use if you don't mind my asking? I would love to have a macro lens.

Thanks Wonky Girl! She is a sweetie pie too. She's tiny, but back in her younger years she laid beautiful eggs.

I used to be a die hard Nikon person, but several years ago switched to Canon. What lenses are you using? Good lenses can make a big difference.
