Susan, actually it's all done with mirrors. Just kidding! Lights do help a lot. And without Isabel's wrangling skills I could never have taken these. Chickens don't realize if they walk off the table, they will land on a hard floor. Then we'd have to have a little cast made.
I'm glad to hear you think they look like Lucy and Ethel. We don't have a great track record. Last time it was two out of four.
They are definitely at the awkward but yet still-so-cute stage. Our six chicks-hopefully-turning-into-hens are getting close to two months old and have lost that adolescent look. We've never raised barred Rocks before. Their 'chick' stage is pretty awesome looking.
Those guys are so cute! Really? You can't tell? I thought it was only me. Way back when I named my Easter chick Frances Jean, because it could just as easily have been Francis Gene for all I knew. She turned out to be a great layer.

Love the photos, Cindy.
Thanks Cathy! Chicks are more difficult to photography than our older hens. They tend to just walk away from the lights.
But they love the digital camera sounds and cock their little heads prettily!
I think they look like Lucy and Ethel. Pretty sure the comb would be much larger at this stage. Good luck!
Black against black...whoda thunk it? It must be all about the lighting.
